Well the subject area says it all!  I have downloaded the free version of Pocket Cloud by WYSE and can connect to my work computer.  It seems to work fine (though there is no pinch to zoom functionality).  My question is do the RDCs that cost around the $20 mark offer anything more.

I would be particularly interested in hearing about your experiences with Xtralogic RDC (gets great reviews), the full version of WYSE's Pocket Cloud, phonemypc and logmein.  I have Googled the topic but have not found any good comparisons between the different apps.

Cheers

Simon

I tried all the RDC clients and have to say Xtralogic RDC is by and far the most intuitive and fully functional of the options. It really earned its reviews and the developer is actively expanding its features. I use it daily for Windows systems I administer and find it well worth the $20. In fact, I've just ordered a small bluetooth keyboard (although Swype works fine) and expect to replace my 9lb laptop for most of my work.

Wyse PocketCloud RDP/VNC would be my second choice. It worked well enough although its touchpad wasn't quite as intuitive and connectivity wasn't as solid/seemless. I do like that it includes a built-in VNC client for UNIX servers.

Thx for your response - I cheaped out and just upgrade my Pocket Cloud to the full version ($15 v $25 for Xtralogic) - I now have pinch/zoom function which is really a necessity on the relatively small Vibrant screen.

I only need RDC in emergencies and I liked the free Pocket Cloud pointer but missed the pinch/zoom function so I went with the devil I know and the cheaper option!

Is there a free version of pocket cloud? I though that ended when the beta ended?

There is still free version in the Market.  It does not support pinch/zoom though and on the small screen, pinch/zoom is really helpful.

Yes I could imagine it would be almost useless otherwise!  Laugh

Hey,

I've also tried pocketcloud and Remote RDP lite. Both seem to work just fine when I'm connected to wi-fi, but it won't work when i'm on the gsm network. Is anyone experiencing the same problems?

regards, Werner

That may be by design. I remember my iPhone VNC and RDP apps wouldn't work in 3G areas either only Wifi which really blew...  but there was an app in Cydia which would trick the iPhone into thinking it was in Wifi so then would always work!

Stupid Apple, Cydia is the reason most people are converting to Droid!

Well, my collegues and I performed quite some tests lasts few day. Problem seems to be that the VPN is not stable. All communications over the VPN just happen to freeze when connected over gms. Even DNS lookup won't work anymore after about a minute of using RDP. This happens with both RDP lite and pocketcloud. This problem exists also on a htc desire.

I'm starting to think that it is an andriod issue. I'm using version 2.1 with the default VPN client. The Desire runs android 2.2.
