When I take a picture the photos are stored in a folder on an external SD card here; /mnt/extSdCard/DCIM/camera. However these files will not transfer via bluetooth. But when I move the files to another folder or rename the camera folder, they transfer fine. Why is this happening? is there a way to change the default folder where the camera stores photos taken? If I delete the "camera" folder and take a picture, it just creates another one. I'm using Mac osx mountain lion. I am able to send a file from the mac to the phone fine. Also, if I unmount and remount the sd card I can transfer a file, but only one. scratch that, even that doesnt work now.

Can someone confirm that a file on an external SD card in the DCIM/camera folder can or cannot be transferred via bluetooth to a Mac?

Thanks! this is driving me nuts!

You could try this, open camera app, settings, scroll to bottom and Storage, the option to save to phone or SD card is there. try save to phone.
I have no idea if this will help with your issue, good luck and please remember to post back if and when you are successful.

thanks for your suggestion. but yes I have tried changing the location. And when I save it to the device memory DCIM/camera its the same. very strange...I even reformatted the sd card but that didn't help either.

It has something to do with that camera folder. I'm hoping another Mac user will test it out for me.

It's got to be a setting in your mac b/tooth preferences, best you get googling Big Grin

The Missing Sync app can do b/tooth transfer to mac if memory serves.

Also because I'm nosey inquisitive, why B/tooth and not USB?

lol I don't use the USB because I'm lazy energetically challenged haha.

I take alot of pics and just find it more convenient to BT it over to my Mac where I edit it, rather then
using an app or a cable. And for me...I just can't believe this doesn't work. Theres got to be some setting I screwed up!

ok I did a little experiment. I dug up my old 9800 blackberry and sent 2 files from the S3 to the BB. the first was in a folder on the SD card but not in the "camera" folder. It transferred fine. When I tried to transfer the one that was in the camera folder, it failed. So there is something wrong with the DCIM/camera folder. I just can't for the life of me figure out what????

I think so but I don't have a router. God I just spent 1/2 hour chatting w/ tech support and in the middle of it when the agent couldn't answer my question he/she switches to another one and I have to start over. aaggghhh....so I ask...all I need to know is: If a file resides in the DCIM/camera folder, is it supposed to be able to be transferred out via bluetooth?

Tech: so may I confirm, you are able to transfer a file from the sdcard/camera folder?
me: good bye you are no help to me.

haha I know...I'm a meanie

Right, have sorted out your issue, Go and have a protein shake ( the flavour is up to you and will have no bearing on success) Then, after it has taken affect your laziness's will not be a problem and you will be fine to stretch across your work station and manage the herculean task of plugging in your USB cable. Big Grin

If transferring a large amount of data, then i also suggest having a couple of Banana's at your side.  (remember to get these before the first exhaustive action)

PS Don't forget to do some warm up and stretches prior to above workout.

hahaha well problem has been solved! I managed to lift the phone to my ear and actually CALL tech support. They confirmed that you can send any file from ANY folder on the device. He suggested I do a factory reset and if that didn't fix the problem I should return it.
Works like new now Happy

thanks again for your help!
ps....don't like bananas....weird huh for an islandguy?!  Sticking out tongue

Well I had the same issue, and I had upgraded to Mountain Lion.
It is all in the Mac's Bluetooth settings. Either open System Preferences and select 'Bluetooth' or go into the menu bar, click on the bluetooth icon and select 'Open Bluetooth Preferences' from the list.
In the left box, select your device (phone) and at the bottom of the right box showing the services available, click on the button that says "Sharing Setup". (Alternatively, and more simple... just open System preferences, and click directly on "Sharing" located right next to Bluetooth). When this window opens, check the box next to 'Bluetooth Sharing'. That basically enables file transfer/receipt. If you want, there is also a menu bar that ask which folder you want to use to receive the files.
I hope this helps any of you having the same issue on Macs, especially after an OS upgrade.

You might want to look at the Samsung store, as the other day while browsing through it there was an app that claimed it could perform a wifi connection with Macs, thus allowing you ftp access.

Personally though would suggest ES File Explorer and sending an e-mail to the devs about enabling for Macs as it works flawlessly for me with my PC using the Lan option and setting network files to share. I have tried loads of other wifi sharing options via FTP and webdev and always had issues - sometimes it work but generally would tell me the system was locked.
