Does anyone know how to get a Samsung Galaxy S3 to Kies? i've just got a new s3 & have had the same problem on two different PCs (windows). Kies has downloaded successfully but when i plug in the phone using the usb i get a "connecting" message but it does not connect. I clicked on the troubleshooting option & the drivers downloaded again but this didn't help. I've also tried enabling the debugging option in the "developer options" in settings & plugging in phone to usb again.

Hi,

When did you download Kies? I was also having this problem when I first got my S3. It told me the device was incompatible, but the new version worked fine!

Best,

Richard

Have you been in to Settings > More Settings > Kies via WiFi?

I did that first then disconnected that and it seemed to work, give it a try I suppose?

Open kies as follows and try this:

right click on the kies icon on the pc select trouble shoot compatabilty (windows 7) and try and use windows xp with service pack 3 or 4 as where kies worked properly save the changes and then open kies and try and connect your phone again I have no connecting since doing this.  worth a try

I have just had this issue and managed to get it working, and that is after uninstalling it loads of times, completely not necessary.

Go through the troubleshooting session, at the end it will say reboot (what they mean here is to keep everything connected and Kies up and running, but for you to reboot the phone while still connected. When it reboots up you should connect without any issues.

I havent checked to see if this will resolve it everytime, but I only use Kies for updating software so could even live with that. Have just checked while posting and it is now working but like normal.

Will state that this is not the 2.5 version but rather the 2.3 version, as 2.5 is what broke my connection. Will try 2.5 another time.

Does anyone have anything on this?
I have searched many forums and I see this problem over and over again..
The solutions always seem to be be non repeatable and almost chance.

I have galaxy S3 with Jellybean and CyanogenMod 10.0.0-d2att
(plenty of people out there with the same problem and a stock phone so lets not blame this yet)

Running Windows 7
Tried un-install and re-install as administrator. Downloaded Kies and drivers from Samsung webside Dec 1st 2012.

Kies just says "connecting" for about 20 min. then nothing.
Trouble shooting option says reboot phone (also contrary to someone elses post it specifically says to disconnect first - either way does not work)

Someone suggested removing the SD card. I cant imagine why this would matter but in my case it does not make any difference.. in fact no matter what I do kies reacts the exact same way..

I should note that I have NO issues with seeing the phone memory or SD card memory from windows explorer when connected via wired USB connection - just garbage software kies..

Cannot connect via blutooth either kies says device rejected connection even after the computer and phone agree with pairing codes.

Not interested in kies wireless..

I can send individual files to my computer via bluetooth file transfer
I have tried MTP and PTP no difference

Drop Box has no problem transfering pics via wired USB connection..

Is there a better software out there because Kies is apparently a joke this problem has been circulating around since maybe 2010 on S2? Rediculous..

No option to Kies - please note you don't have a stock phone if you are running an alternative mod and this could be part of your issue.

I can only confirm that for official roms this should work.
When running the troubleshoot, definitely do not disconnect. It absolutely has to be connected to the PC and Kies when you reboot the phone. When you do this you should see some driver installation messages. This can be quite a lengthy process.

I do not have Kies to start up. I always plug my phone in, make sure it connects to the PC - i.e. can see phone and card in explorer. Make sure it is unlocked, and then launch Kies. Never disconnect phone from Kies before exiting kies as it will cause connection issues.

Would seriously suggest uninstalling and then re-installing and then following mine and the other instructions where it includes retaining the connection.

To wireless transfer stuff with your PC and or Dropbox would seriously suggest ES File Explorer.
If you make the stuff you want to transfer on your PC shared, you can then use ES's LAN option to set up a link with the PC and that folder as a Server. You can then download files (and upload if you included changing in your share options).
Have found it the most flawless way of doing this wirelessly.

Some use MyExplorer.

I have had this problem for a long time. And it seems to reach phone models sperattically and I don't know why. I spent many hrs online with different isp/cell providers and Samsung tech and admin support and from a i can tell kies is made from a separate company and neither kies nor Samsung have a clue as to what is going on. apparently the numbers to do a patch or a recall just aren't there.
So, after many trials nad experiments here is what I do to get it going again.

1-plug in phone. Get the hardware ID message. Leave phone plugged in.

2- open device manager. Click on. Android Phone and Uninstall Samsung Android ADB Interface. Also check the "delete software driver" when the dialog box shows.

3-still in device manager. Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Uninstall Samsung Mobile USB Composite Device.

4-unplug phone.

5-reboot pc.

6-install SAMSUNG USB drivers from their site or from here
http://www.epiccm.org/2012/06/cwm-re...iants.html?m=1

7-reboot or not. Plug in phone.

When you connect your phone to the computer to use kies. unplug your internet and plug it back in once connection has been established.

Hi,
THank you CDNeh and jaamgans

CDNeh,
Thank you for putting these steps together.
I tried them unfortunately no change.
I will say that you mention unistalling (Samsung Android ADB Interface)
I uninstalled 3 things from device manager but this specific interface was not listed.
I have attached a jpg anotating the things i uninstalled. Could the lack of this interface be the issue?

Note your link is not working. I did however get the latest drivers from samsung website.

jaamgans, mentions running the connection diagnostics with the phone connected. Kies will not let this happen. Infact it stops you and shows an animated illustration of you disconnecting the usb cable.
Wish they put more effort into this problem vs that illustration lol.

As always any help appreciated.
Regards

nope. looks good. But ensure the old usb mobile driver is uninstalled through program uninstaller. and reset. then install latest kies. install  1.4.6.0 usb mobile driver and reset. and disconnect internet. attach phone. wait a bit. it should come up in a few moments but it will seem  late. you can see the phone directly on your window screen in "computer" and drag and drop that way but if the phone comes up then just start kies. (no upgrading or patching) if you accidentilly install newer drivers then do it all again.
Go here. These people seem to have a bit more education when it comes to android phones and thus far been able to do all I need that these folks couldn't.
