Does the Galaxy S3 have an option which causes the name of the caller to be announced verbally when using a bluetooth headset?

I'm not sure, have you tried driving mode? Just a wild guess

Alas, 'driver mode' has nothing to do with 'Caller name announcement'.

In driving mode the phone talks to announce things so i thought it was worth a try. I won't bother offering help in future!

I just tried this with driver mode switched on and as Sarah says it does indeed announce the callers details.

whether it does it over Bluetooth I have no way of testing so can't advise

I have been using a Droid x for 18 months. I sell to hair styling salons and receive calls all day. Having the callers name anounced from the contact list is very important because stylists have 2 minutes to talk to me between clients and I need to take the call or we play phone tag all day long. I bought a Galaxy S3 yesterday. Today I noticed there is no ringtone selection for "announce caller from contact list". I went to "Play Store", searched on "caller id", and downloaded "Voice Caller ID". It is free. I have tested it 10 times, it was slow on test number 3 but is very responsive now. Time will tell, of course, how robust it is, but it looks like a good start. There were several other app to chose from in Play Store..... Happy

I also just noticed that you specifically asked for blue tooth heatset voice announce. I have the blue ant Q2. It downloads your contact list, receives the calling phone number from the phone, and then looks up the callers name from the blie ant list and announces the callers name in your ear. It works pretty well.....

Thanks, I also have the BlueAnt Q2...basically the only game in town but a badly flawed product that makes voice dialing extremely cumbersome.  I really want to get away from having the name announcement dependent on a Bluetooth headset...I want the feature available from the phone when using any Bluetooth headset.
So it sounds like the app you found may do the trick.
