Hi guys,

I bought my S3 on 12th August at night, and all I did was set contacts then go sleep. The next day, I was setting up the phone, and syncing contacts...etc. The first call I received that day gave me the same problem, I thought my device was defective and was about to return it that night, but I ran out of time, so I googled the error message I got. I came across a forum where someone explained what's happening.

It's an issue with syncing contacts with other services (facebook, google...etc). A suggested fix was to back-up contacts (ONLY PHONE) to Samsung Kies, then delete them from phone and recover from Kies, then sync. with services as you wish.

I did that, and I've been using the phone for almost a week now, without a single time of getting this error message.

I hope this helps Happy

I have the same problem now. I bought S 3 yesterday and transferred my Sony Ericsson contacts via Bluetooth to S3 and tried to dial a contact, there came the same error. Blank screen with error message. pressing OK will bring back to the last screen. I have deleted all the contacts and dialed again, it's working - OK. So the reason is transferring old contact list from another phone. Friends, don't transfer your contacts from other phones for the time being otherwise you will be in trouble. Now I have to enter my contacts one by one to my Galaxy S3

amazing how bluetooth can give so many issues. I have never ever found this a reliable transfer method (works ok for headphones but even then can give issues due to the numerous variants in standards).

Really the best method of dealing with contacts on android is to use google contacts - everything becomes a lot easier, especially when moving to other phones, even if they aren't android.

Have you tried saving them from your Sony using an alternative method of transfer? Can you save your contacts to a SD card or can you somehow sync them to google/hotmail or similar. If you can do that you can then get them into google contacts fairly easily and then it is a quick sync from there.

(if you don't care about how did I find this out, scroll down to SOLUTION)
I just had to register and tell you guys what helped me resolve the "android.phone proccess has stopped".
First of, let me clarify my phone is in spanish (like my country and my mother tongue Happy), so I am not that sure I translated the error messagge correctly.
I started by googling the same error in spanish and found a solution in which I had not much faith (but worked like a charm). Since I was not satisfied with the solution as it seemed "too easy"; I google it again in english. It seemed like the proposed solutions I came up now with were even more difficult to accomplish
Anyways, let me share with you guys the  "google espaƱol" solution, which worked great.
The first thing that brought my attention was that several people who had issues with this android process, also seemed to have issues with their contacts. Either their contacts had too many emails, phone numbers and overall info, or they had too many linked accounts. Also, I found a guy who was scrolling and updating contacts when he received a phone call and boom, android.process crap. This was exactly what happened to me so maybe it's the same case as yours.

SOLUTION

Download and install Samsung Kies
(http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/)

Plug your phone via USB to your PC.

Backup your contacts (JUST your contacts)

Once you are absolutely sure you have a backup of all your contacts, safely unplug your Samsung Galaxy S3 from the computer.

Grab your phone and go to contacts. Hit the "option" key (the one left to the home key)
choose "delete".

Select all contacts and then de-select yourself from it (you should be at the top as "phone owner" or something like that)

Go ahead and DELETE them.

Plug your phone to the computer again, open Kies again, go to the "backup and restore" tab.

Choose the file you in which you saved your contacts and restore them.

Once you safely unplug it from the PC, you will have your contacts back in your phone and it won't freeze when trying to call them or when you receive a call from them.

I hope this helps you as much as it helped me!

hi guys ..even i had the same problem.

I tried factory reseting ..then also problem was not solved. then i deleted all the contacts. Then my phone was working fine.

This problem is because of importing contacts from other device..so please dont import the contacts .. Manually store individual contacts..No need to reset the phone...
then this problem will not occur.  Smile

This is from contact transfer from another Phone. you have to delete all contact and either re-enter them manually or save the CSV file in PC and import through Kies.
